Microsoft D365 for Finance and Operations Spring Release New Features
Posted by Kerry White
Spring is in the air! Birds are singing, flowers are beginning to pop up and with that comes a new release from Microsoft for D365! This Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations release has some exciting features that users have been anxiously awaiting.
Alerts are back!
Change-based alerts have been MIA in previous releases of D365 for Finance and Operations, but they are back! Now users can set alerts for changes in the system that are important to them and vital to their management of the system. For users making an upgrade, this feature will make that transition much easier.
Customizations through extensions only!
Does this sound fancy? Well it is, but fancy in a good way. To make upgrading to new versions/releases of D365 more straightforward, Microsoft has moved to extensions for all customizations. Any ISV solution, including tried and true solutions from Armanino, must be implemented using extensions. All other customizations will be done using extensions as well which means the next D365 upgrade will be super easy and relatively painless. By the way, our Revenue Recognition Management, High Tech Industries for Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Life Sciences Industries for Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions are already implemented using extensions in D365 for Finance and Operations!
Project Timesheet Mobile Application
For users using Projects, entering time is critical for proper project management and billing. Microsoft has released a mobile application, so employees can create and submit project timesheets. Users can employ saved favorites and have the ability to copy from a previous timesheet to facilitate rapid, accurate time entry. Stay tuned for more information on this timesaving application!
Other Project Enhancements
Edit default project fulfillment hours – Project resource managers can edit the default hours as part of the project booking fulfillment process.
Reserve project resources past the task end date – Project resource managers can fulfill resources on tasks past the current planned end date for the task.
Custom Fields? Without a developer?
Need to simply add a field to collect some additional needed data? D365 for Finance and Operations has you covered, and you don’t even need a developer…well, not always, at least. If a user needs to add fields with additional functionality then our highly skilled developer and BA’s are happy to help. But for a “simple” case of adding a field to an item master, customer, vendor, and so on, users with the proper permissions can do this themselves. Admins only for this feature, folks!
