Is IKEA a Nonprofit?

Posted by Armanino Nonprofit Team

IKEA is a nonprofit. Really?  This interesting video produced by the folks at OnlineMBA.com will make you think so. As it turns out the parent for IKEA Group is Ingka Holding, a private Dutch-registered company.  Ingka Holding is wholly owned by Stichting Ingka Foundation, a Dutch-registered, tax-exempt, nonprofit entity.  Through shrewd tax planning, the IKEA family has been able to avoid paying taxes on billions of profits. Perhaps that explains IKEA’s ability to provide very cheap furniture. So the next time you shop at IKEA, you can feel good about your contribution to… the owners’ pockets.
